In the recent re-Invent, Amazon announced the preview of an Amazon Lex Automated Chatbot Designer.
The new feature to simplify and automate chatbot training and designing process.
The officials have said that it enables developers to automatically design chatbots from conversation transcripts in hours rather than weeks.
But, What exactly Amazon Lex Automated Chatbot Designer can do?
Let’s find out in the next section!
What is Amazon Lex Automated Chatbot Designer?
It is an automated chatbot designer that helps us to design, test, and deploy chatbots by using machine learning (ML) to analyze thousands of lines of transcripts and provide initial bot design in a couple of hours.
This chatbot includes common intents and information needed to respond to those intents.
And, it also has the ability to edit and iterate that automatically designed chatbot to deliver an effective conversational experience.
We can deploy these chatbots on contact centers such as Amazon Connect, messaging channels such as Facebook Messenger, and websites.

As you can see in the above image, the conversation transcripts are given to the chatbot designer as input to analyze and systematically cluster the most common intents and related information from them using machine learning (ML) models.
After that, it will transfer to remove overlaps and ambiguity in them so that chatbot can understand user queries better and have efficient interaction.
And finally, it will design a significant part of chatbot design that includes intents, associated phrases, and a list of values.
And as I said earlier, that developers can iterate on this design by adding new responses, prompts, and logic to it.
Ok! Let’s wrap it up now!
Final Thoughts on Amazon Lex Automated Chatbot Designer
The timing of this launch is very interesting because recently Google also launched a similar kind of feature called Bot-in-a-Box on its Business Messages platform.
And, that also uses the same technique to extract information from a document to respond to user’s messages by using machine learning models.
The benefits of Amazon Lex Automated Chatbot Designer are it reduces the developer’s efforts and the time it takes to design a chatbot.
And most importantly, it’s very useful steps from both of these giants to let businesses leverage the power of conversational AI to improve their engagement with customers.
A conversation transcript is a document that contains all the historical data and information gathered by a business’s customer support team while interacting with its customers.
It can be call summaries, emails, messages, or any form of customer interaction.
Amazon Lex is a cloud service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build conversational interfaces for any application and website.
Amazon Connect is a cloud customer contact center service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to respond to phone calls and chat inquiries from end customers.
